Deadly Hurricane Hits the Gulf Coast
A hurricane in Naples and Fort Myers Beach, Florida occured on Sunday November 5th, 2010. The hurricane hit at 1 o'clock in the morning. 330 people are dead. 411 people are injured. 7,000 homes are collapsed. 4,000 homes are damaged. The hurricane had been brewing in the ocean off the coast for a few weeeks but no one took the hurricane watch seriously. The hurricane is the largest hurricane to hit the Florida coast since 1883.
One man saw the hurricane coming and remarked "I have been living here for seventy seven long years and have never seen anything like this hurricane!" The man took a hurricane safety class at his local community center and using the techniques he learned, survived the massive hurricane.
Another woman was in the hospital after just having a baby. Her thoughts on the hurricane were "I was so scared for my babies' life and my life as well. The wind was so loud and powerful. The woman in the room next to me screamed loudly and that was when i realized that half of the hospital's roof flew off. This event was by far the scariest thing i have ever been through in my life!"
Many people in Naples and Fort Myers Beach were shaken up by the giant hurricane. The hurricane was powerful. Many people are grieving from the loss of their loved ones. The cities of Naples and Fort Myers Beach have many homeless people now and are looking for a new place to live. The cities want to start over on a new life.
