A hurricane in Naples and Fort Myers Beach, Florida occured on Sunday November 5th, 2010. The hurricane hit at 1 o'clock in the morning. 330 people are dead. 411 people are injured. 7,000 homes are collapsed. 4,000 homes are damaged. The hurricane had been brewing in the ocean off the coast for a few weeeks but no one took the hurricane watch seriously. The hurricane is the largest hurricane to hit the Florida coast since 1883.
One man saw the hurricane coming and remarked "I have been living here for seventy seven long years and have never seen anything like this hurricane!" The man took a hurricane safety class at his local community center and using the techniques he learned, survived the massive hurricane.
Another woman was in the hospital after just having a baby. Her thoughts on the hurricane were "I was so scared for my babies' life and my life as well. The wind was so loud and powerful. The woman in the room next to me screamed loudly and that was when i realized that half of the hospital's roof flew off. This event was by far the scariest thing i have ever been through in my life!"
Many people in Naples and Fort Myers Beach were shaken up by the giant hurricane. The hurricane was powerful. Many people are grieving from the loss of their loved ones. The cities of Naples and Fort Myers Beach have many homeless people now and are looking for a new place to live. The cities want to start over on a new life.

Reaction to Online Ads
When I looked for online ads for the assignment I noticed them a lot more than I usually do. Usually ads don't get in my way when I am online, but sometimes ads can be annoying when they pop up and you are trying to get something done. I think some online ads can be effectiveness, especially the ones that come up on your screen while you are waiting for something to open. When these ads show up you might actually read them because you have nothing better to do and can be persuaded by what they are trying to sell to you.

Target Market for Nikes
My demographic would be that I am a 17 year old white female, a senior in high school. I live in Minnesota, in the United States of America. I live in the suburb of Burnsville. The climate is cold for most of the year. Snow is on the ground for a good chunk of the year as well. I like to be outside, shop, and fish. I would want a shoe that is comfortable to walk for long periods of time in, but is also a casual shoe I can wear to school. I will use the shoe almost everyday, and would want the shoes to be durable so I get my moneys worth. I want the shoes to be affordable and durable. A good way to reach my age group would be to advertise on the radio or on TV, because I listen to the radio often and I watch TV too.

9/11 Flag Raising

This picture really sticks out In my mind when I think of one picture that impacted my life. I remember when I was in fourth grade I looked at the newspaper and saw this picture. Everything about 9/11 seemed unreal. The event of 9/11 impacted the lives of Americans everywhere. Many people knew a loved one who was killed or went to help the victims. Our nation really came together when 9/11 occur ed. I think this picture shows our country's heroes helping others in need. It is a picture of great patriotism to me.

Gender in the Media
Men are portrayed in the media to be tough and have no emotions. Male teenagers in the media are good looking and have toned bodies. They don't show their feelings and are not vulnerable. If a guy in a TV show cries or shows their inner feelings they are usually called names by other guys or even by their role models. In shows they male teenagers are usually taught by their fathers or an adult male how to be a man. They are taught to keep their feelings inside of them and to act tough. In the media teen guys usually date girls based on how good looking they are. I think this pressures many guys just to date girls based on their looks rather than their personalities. There is also a pressure on guys to be muscular and have a good body. Guys aren't supposed to "act gay" by showing their feelings or being interested in fashion or any other interest that doesn't seem manly enough. Teenage guys have just as many pressures as teenage girls have.

American Core Values
Extreme Makeover: Home Addition shows many core values that Americans live by today. The show was designed to help people in need. This value is Humanitarianism. The home builders help a family that is in a difficult situation and the family they help is a hardworking family that is out on their luck. The brand new home is the end result, showing achievement and success. The brand new products that are put into the home show progress and efficiency. Many times new machines or items are brought to the family because a family member has special needs and the product is more efficient than what the family used before. The home is an example of material comfort. The home has the latest technology and the nicest furniture. Many objects in the home are for comfort and the homes are usually more spacious than before, because Americans like material goods.

First Impression
I think this class will be interesting and won't be as difficult as American lit. I think the paper will be hard, but the other activities we do will be fun. The project at the end of the semester sounds like it will be interesting. It's nice that we haven't had an homework, iI hope this will continue. The history of media sounds like an interesting topic, and interviewing the elderly people sounds like it will be fun.
